One of the world's most produced ten minute playwrights Alex Broun has had over 30 short plays produced all over the world from South Africa to Spain in nearly 100 productions. He has also had over 20 full length plays produced across the globe as well as having two short screenplays filmed during the last twelve months. He has also twice received funding from the Australian Film Commission.
On this website you will find all of Alex's ten minute and full length plays, feature and short screenplays as well as collections of poetry. And here's the good news - for the next two years - till December 31st, 2009 - all scripts on this website are available to be produced by anyone, anywhere in the world - absolutely FREE.
That's right - no royalties, copyright fees, deposits - nothing at all. Just read through the descriptions of scripts to find something that suits your needs, download the script and get rehearsing.
The only condition is you must email Alex at abroun@bigpond.net.au and let him know where and when you produced his script, listing the director, cast and theatre. If you have any production photos send them along as well and they may just end up on this website.

Broun uses the challenging and engaging style of several short plays in one, with actors playing different roles from one scene to the next.
Vicious Streaks is one of over a dozen plays written by Broun, whose career in acting began on the set of Neighbours in the 1980s. In recent years, his focus has been on writing and producing.
He directed Purgatory Down Under, produced Refugitive, and wrote Blind City, which was part of the 2003 Sydney Festival, and had a refugee character.

Born in Sydney Alex has worked in theatre, TV and film as a writer, actor and director. He has had plays performed in the USA, South Africa, England and Australia. His plays include 'Vicious Streaks', 'Blind City', 'Pick Ups', 'Desire', 'Scenes From An Affair', 'Just Once' and 'Potential for Violence'. 'Pick Ups' was nominated for the Vita Award for Best New Play in South Africa in 1998 and 'Just Once' won the STC's Young Playwright's Scheme in 1985. 'Blind City' was performed at The Darlinghurst Theatre as part of the 2003 Sydney Festival. 'Pick Ups', 'Desire' and 'Scenes From An Affair' - are soon to be published under the title 'Fast Love'. Alex's new full length play 'The Jacaranda Tree' was shortlisted in the 2004 Rodney Seaborn Playwright's Award, received an Honourable Mention in the Virtual Theatre Project's International Play Competition of 2004 and was workshopped as a part of Theatrelab 2005. He has recently received funding from the Australian Film Commission to write a script based on the sinking of the Siev X in October 2001

Born in Sydney Alex has enjoyed considerable success in theatre, TV and film as a writer, actor and director. As a writer he has had many plays performed in the USA , South Africa , Singapore , England and Australia . One of the world's leading writers of ten minute plays, in recent years he has had 25 short plays produced in over 60 productions in Australia , Singapore , the UK and the US .
Recently he has co-produced "Refugitive", a one man play by Iranian refugee, actor and playwright Shahin Shafaei about his experiences in the Curtin Detention Centre which toured nationally in Australia.
Alex is currently the Artistic Co-ordinator of Short & Sweet, the largest ten minute play festival in the world, a position he has held since 2003.
